Born in 1944, Dr.P.R.Prasad
is a retired Professor and Head of Metallurgical Engineering Department at BIT
Sindri. Dr.Prasad obtained B.Sc.Engg(1965) and M.Sc.Engg(1971) degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from BIT Sindri and his Ph.D(1984) degree from Roorkee University. He joined BIT Sindri as Asstt. Prof. of Met. Engg. in 1971 and was finally promoted to the rank of Professor in 1987. Before joining BIT Sindri, he worked for some time in M/s Kesoram Spun Pipes, Calcutta and National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur. Dr.Prasad
has been an outstanding teacher and dedicated researcher in the field of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. He
has taught Physical Metallurgy, Materials Processing & Testing and Computer
Application at UG and PG levels. He has carried out extensive theoretical and experimental investigations relating to Rheocasting
process. His major research contribution has been to develop understanding of microstructural modifications brought about by this process and establish relationship between processing condition, microstructure, quality and mechanical properties of rheocast products. The results of his research have appeared in many prestigious international journals and conferences in USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, Japan etc. To date he has over 50 technical papers to his credit.
Dr.Prasad is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers(India), Fellow of United Writers Association of
India and Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education. He has received several awards and honors from national and international agencies in recognition of his distinguished achievements. He has served as Coordinator of ISTE sponsored winter school, Editor and Treasurer of All India Symposium on Converting Wastes into Wealth,
Convener of National Seminar on Computer Application in Metallurgy, and Secretary and Treasurer of IIM Sindri Chapter several times. He
had been Member of Bihar State Committee of Institution of Engineers(I), Bihar State Centre, Patna for the period 2000-2002.
Dr.Prasad, after retirement in 2004, has been offering
consultancy in web design, hosting, IT services and software solutions. He is presently
Proprietor and CEO of G R InfoTech Services, Patna.
